The Society was started in 1972 with a lecture meeting given by
Arthur.C.Clarke at which many members of the public attended including the Mayor of Haringey who officially recognised the Society. Over the years there have been many changes in membership and style but overall we have kept to our main ideals. These are to educate and inform the public in the understanding of astronomy and science and to have a damn good time doing it.
